FOR NEW PEOPLE TO TOWN .... AND FOR OTHERS WHO'VE FORGOTTEN
TEN Questions about The Arts Centre (TAC).
1. Where is it?
TAC's location is 16-20 Wallendoon Street, opposite the White Ibis B&B.
2. Isn't it an art gallery?
No... but it can be sometimes. Within the building there are spaces for workshops, meetings, vocal, musical and dance concerts and recitals, rehearsals, films, exhibitions and many other creative pursuits.
3. Isn't it a club for 'arty' people?
No. It's not an exclusive 'clubhouse'. There are no joining fees in order to attend functions, events or concerts. Money raised from ticket sales, donations and grants is directed into the building's refurbishment and running costs. TAC is managed by a committee of volunteers.
4. Who owns it?
You ... if you live in the Cootamundra Shire. The building is owned by the Council (like the library, pool, stadium and parks) and is a facility FOR the community to be used by the community.
5. What happens there?
The Arts Centre is a multi-purpose location for the teaching, enjoyment and appreciation of visual and performing arts. The Tin Shed Theatre ( TST ) can be used as a performance space for drama, dance and music. TST can also be used as a cinema.
6. Who uses the building?
Local and visiting artists, teachers, singers, musicians, dancers, actors, students, privately owned businesses (for seminars and their staff development days), hirers for meetings and private functions such as weddings, receptions, dinners and birthday parties, charities for fund raisers plus FLICs nights.
7. Do school students use it?
Yes. Using the Tin Shed Theatre as an educational resource were Cootamundra HS Year 12 music students for their HSC examinations and the Year 12 VET students for their course requirements in theatre lighting and sound. Years 9/10 music students from the Sacred Heart School performed two concerts for their families, peers and Elouera Special School.
8. Is the building work finished?
Almost! The theatre dressing rooms need to be completed. Pavers are to be placed onto the footpath approaches in Wallendoon Street.
9. How do I find out what's happening at TAC during 2012?

There is a newspaper column is published in the Cootamundra Herald on alternate Wednesdays. There are also posters and flyers displayed around town in local shops, businesses and in school newsletters advertising events.
10. What's happening this month?
'Oranges and Sunshine' starring Emily Brown, Hugo Weaving and David Wenham will be screened twice in the TST on Thursday Jan 27th, Australia Day, and again on Friday January 27th.
The afternoon session on Thursday will start at 2pm, whilst the evening sessions on both days start at 7pm. Tickets are available on the door priced at $10!
This deeply moving story concerns orphaned British children being sent to Australia.
'Oranges and Sunshine' has an R rating.
Tickets will be $10 at the door.
